Last week, I traveled to San Diego to gather with other congregations of the City Classis. Over two days, we learned from one another – about pastoring in the age of AI, pursuing dignity for detained immigrants, and new church communities being planted. We also made decisions in areas of common purpose. One of those decisions was especially meaningful for us at City Church: we welcomed our Pastoral Resident, Amelia Hamiter, as a “candidate under care,” officially beginning her journey toward becoming an ordained minister in the Reformed Church in America! Please pray for Amelia as she continues to grow as a pastor and discerns her next most faithful steps in ministry following the end of her residency in December. Pray also, for our siblings at Oakland City Church as they move through a season of transition and discernment about their future. I and other leaders in the classis are journeying with them in this time. It can be easy to forget that we are part of a larger network of communities, but classis is always a reminder to encounter and give thanks for those who labor alongside us to faithfully share, show, and reflect the love of God in the world.
