I was raised in a large Irish Catholic family in a suburb of Boston and, even though I was involved, I didn't necessarily feel a closeness with our church. I did, however, always have a deep interest in the stories of the Bible and the life of Jesus. Post high school, my life and faith journey meandered far and wide but the underlying interest never waned. A well-worn paperback that had been given to me many years prior – "More Than a Carpenter" – fanned the embers of my faith back to life. I moved to SF in 1988 and, for many years, was an active member at Calvary Presbyterian Church. Both my children were baptized there and my faith was strengthened by and within its amazing community of believers. Over time, I felt called to find a new church home. I started coming to City Church in August of 2022 and became a member in April of 2023. It was hard to come into a "new" space but it was all worth it - and more! Sunday is now my absolute favorite day of the week. I look forward to the warmth I feel and the energy I receive greeting folks as they arrive, being spiritually and emotionally fed at the service, and/or joy I receive as part of our MS/HS Youth's weekly J-Block sessions. As a Deacon, I hope to help others feel that same way about their time here at City Church – no matter where they are on their journey.
