Behold
and struck with awe
by the plain things

they are thresholds
openings to an expanse.

Let your mind rest
in these places
so you can be,

held in and by a mere flutter

moved to stillness

as the rush swirls by
and the light of the sun
warms the back of your neck

bringing a sense
that seems ancient
yet it is the now of it.

and this truth swells
in and beyond
the edge of you

It has become clear to me that God is always present and communicating if I am willing to pay attention. Everything is aflame with the voice of God just like the burning bush that Moses encountered. It has been the slow, patient work of contemplative prayer that has opened me to the mystery of God’s voice that is more than words holding me and everything together.
