Throughout this sermon series we see what listening looks like. A new way of seeing that sometimes introduces inconvenient truths. Habits for listening. What does listening sound like?
God is constantly speaking to us, inviting us into conversation and mutual relationship, and will use any means by which to communicate – whether in the form of a burning bush, a mighty wind, an inconvenient prophet. These examples serve as a reminder that God is present in every form of creation and season of life’s journey. In a noisy world, where attention has become its own economy, it can be difficult to discern which belong to God and, even more, what they are trying to tell us. The task, then, is to tune our hearts and draw near to the sound of God’s genuine presence among us and within us. It begins with paying attention, surrounding ourselves with truthtellers who love us and love God, and cultivating a listening heart that continuously turns toward the stories, promises, and activities which point us to God’s life-giving, liberating, and loving purpose across generations and in our lives.
