You Are Queerly Beloved

When the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out, people were invited to step into a strange new reality – one defined by a transformational and “queer” love, that was invitational and proclaimed of radical belonging through Jesus. These early days of what became the church was a time of wonder, boldness, and experimentation for making sense of this new reality. As folks grew in faith and number, so did their imaginations for what it could look like to follow in the way of Jesus. This amplified their courage to step out, speak up, and share the gospel message of God’s transformative and “queer” love – a love that didn’t make sense or follow the “rules” that folks had been taught. As they explored what this love could do, they found that it was disruptive, joy-filled and utterly different from what they had ever known. Join us this month as we explore how that same queer love is active among us today, inviting us toward new notions of family and a fresh imaginary for faith, and learning what it means for us to be God’s queerly beloved.

CHURCH-WIDE PRIDE MONTH EVENTS

These events are open to everyone within our church community and are great opportunities to invite a friend to join us as we build community with one another throughout the month of June.

  • “Queerly Beloved” - a Pride Month Sermon Series begins THIS Sunday, June 5th.
  • Saturday, June 10th - Giants/Cubs Pride Game. We’ve reserved 25 tickets at $30 each. The giveaway is a Giants Pride Jersey to the first 20,000 fans! Tickets are first come, first serve.
  • Friday, June 23rd - 20th Annual Trans March - Dolores St. Sidewalk Party - 5pm. Register here.
  • Saturday, June 24th - Annual Pride Party in Bernal Heights - 5pm. Register here.
  • Sunday, June 25th - March with us in the Pride Parade - Gathering location and time is still TBD, will likely be between 10am-11am. Register for all in your party; be sure to include names and t-shirt sizes for all!

Take & Read Theological Book Club

Do you love reading as a way to draw closer to God? Or is it a practice you'd like to explore with other adventurers? If so, join "Take & Read", our monthly theological book club, hosted by Sarah & Jon Dahl, Diana Marin, and Elizabeth Marshman! Once a month, we'll gather to eat, drink, and discuss a theological classic or new bestseller. Come every month or just for the books you're interested in! Family Camping
August 4 -6 · Brannan Island SRA
Join us for Family Camping at Brannan Island State Recreation Area on August 4th and 5th. This park northeast of San Francisco Bay has countless islands and recreation options like fishing, boating and swimming. We will stay two nights and enjoy a brief wild-worship service together on Sunday morning. City Church will provide a happy hour and s'mores on Friday night. REGISTER HERE

2023-24 The Faith & Justice Fellowship
Applications Now Open, Apply by June 15th to save $150
A nine-month journey, from September to May, of theological formation for exploring the spiritual and public dimensions of Christian faith. Experience the Faith and Justice curriculum with a cohort of peers! In addition to network activities, cohorts typically meet 2x a month.
