WHAT IS A PLEDGE?
PLEDGING IS A PROMISE to be part of the bigger story God is writing in our faith community here at City Church. When you make a pledge, you are making a commitment to support City Church financially for our fiscal year (ending August 31, 2025). Your pledge may be fulfilled all at once or in increments – whatever suits your financial habits.
PLEDGING IS A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE that helps us not only remember that everything comes to us from God but to respond with gratitude by returning a portion to sow new seeds of life in God’s community, the church.
PLEDGING IS A DISRUPTION of the ways in which we are taught to understand our power and our resources. When we choose to give away what is traditionally transacted, we enact and embody a different kind of “economy "among us – one that runs on the “currency” of gifts and gratitude.
Your faithful financial commitment enables our efforts to be both good stewards of our financial resources, as well as participate in something bigger than ourselves. We will make our plans based on the pledges we receive, so if we receive fewer pledges, we make adjustments to our plans. If we receive a higher number of pledges, it enables us to dream bigger!
Wondering how much to pledge? Traditionally, scripture instructs a “tithe,” which constitutes 10% of one’s income. You are encouraged to make a “faithful financial commitment,” which is another way of saying to think about what would be a faithful challenge that disrupts your monetary habits, deepens your gratitude for God’s provision, and is a promise you can keep!
