Our Gifts, God’s Story

One of the ways I like to think about community in general, but especially at City Church, is not only how our gifts help to shape God's bigger story, but also how God’s gifts shape our story. The mystery of God’s economy is that we enjoy the fruits of those who labored in faith before us, just as those who follow us will enjoy the fruits of our faithful efforts. In this, we participate in an abundant cycle of generative goodness that enables us to navigate the realities of our world with faith, hope, and love.

Stewardship is a spiritual discipline that teaches us to let go of our transactional attitudes and exchange them for trust. In other words, stewardship means that we get to participate in God’s beautiful story, but we don't control the outcomes. God is eager to enact a particular story through us; a story of restored relationships and economic purpose. Through the gifts God freely gives to us, we are invited to participate in the collective story God is writing through our lives and our church as we seek to follow Jesus with our head, our heart, and our hands.
