STARTING WITH WHERE YOU ARE

This past Sunday, we began our Lenten journey with our very first testifier, Robin Huey. As she reflected on her family history and how it has been deeply intertwined with the history of the Bay Area, and as Pastor Stephen shared about the gifts and graces embedded in the challenges of the wilderness, we were invited into thinking more deeply about how the places in which we build our lives are not only geography, they are a canvas to a much broader story. This Sunday, we will continue to think about our connectedness by getting off the land and into the water, when Jesus escaped the crowds by hopping into an unsuspecting fisherman’s boat at the end of a disappointing night of work. It can be easy to lose sight of what is possible when you feel defeated. The fisherman’s willingness to accept Jesus’ invitation and head back into the water resulted in an object lesson that completely changed his worldview. Our testifier this Sunday, Manny Yekutiel (of Manny’s), is no stranger to trying again amidst defeat. Join us for the opportunity to not only hear Manny’s story, but reflect on what it takes to remember Jesus’ promise that what we see is not all that we can get.
