"Deacons lead the church in ministries of justice, mercy, and compassion. Deacons are to be servants, following Jesus’s example of servanthood in word and deed. In their roles, they serve Christ, the church, and the world." - Reformed Church in America Book of Order 

Because the City Church diaconate is in a time of reconstitution, not all avenues of service will be available immediately. Our incoming deacons will work alongside the Pastoral Associate for Community Life (Amanda Samuel), to design a care infrastructure which serves the felt needs of City Church via the following pathways:

Spiritual Solidarity

Deacons provide for the encouragement and uplift of the community through prayer and the facilitation of prayer requests that honor the confidentiality of others.

Financial Assistance

Deacons administer the Deacon's Fund, which provides pathways for members to gain short-term financial assistance for rent, food, utilities, counseling & medical assistance, and other expenses.

Mutual Aid

Deacons understand the complex challenges of urban living. Because of this, part of their role involves facilitating practical care that exists among the community (e.g. meals during times of hardship, coaching, connections to services, and general San Francisco life hacks).
