Let's Get Started

One metaphor for the process of coming to believe and follow Jesus, is being awakened, as from sleep or death (See Ephesians 2:3-7; Ephesians 5:14). Waking up to a reality far bigger than our shame or guilt, our overconfidence or overwhelming sense of not mattering at all. Waking up to a God who is present, who knows us in all of our beauty and brokenness, and loves us so deeply that he moves toward us and calls us to be his own. He loves us, he knows us, he heals us, he blesses us, he sends us to be a blessing to others.  And so we commend this good news to our friends. As theologians have said, "Evangelism is just one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread."

But how do we do this? What does it look like to commend our faith to our friends this week? Listen to the audio (below). Fred's talk is on "Why commend our faith to our friends," and my talk is on "How to commend your faith to your friends."

TAKE ACTION

1: Listen to the talks if you weren't at the City Church Leadership training on March 13th

2: Comment below to get a great conversation started. Here are questions I'd love to hear your thoughts on the challenge of my talk is to pick one pathway and try it this week.

  • Did you do it?
  • How did it go?
  • If not, what were obstacles?
  • What aspect of the "How to share your faith" talk is relevant to your life and relationships?
  • Are there ideas that weren't in the talk that should've been?

Next week:
City Church leaders are going through the book Re-Imagining Evangelism, by Rick Richardson.  If you're a leader and haven't gotten your copy, email me.  Otherwise, you can buy it here.

Each week, I'll post a thought from a chapter of the book, beginning next week with chapter 1: Reimagining Evangelism: Salespeople or Traveguides? (p. 15-30).  Get the book, read along, and share your thoughts here!  Seriously... join us!
