Daily Reading
Daily Reflection
When we look at this passage, one temptation is to focus in on the things we (or others) need to do, and miss Paul's end message. The context of this passage is that Paul is writing to his protégé Titus who he has tasked with correcting behavioral and theological problems in the budding church in Crete. While he gives Titus many corrections, they all point toward the authentic Christian gospel that proclaims the grace of God who offers salvation to us in Jesus Christ. Therefore, motivation for any "good deed" is only in what Jesus has done. There will be times when we will be confronted to see those things that need correcting in our lives. However, at the heart of these corrections are the grace and love that has been shown to us through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. During this Lenten season let us pray that God would embed our interactions with a deeper understanding of the gospel, out of that we which we would be motivated to live as he has shown us, as Paul tells the people of Crete to live, to God's glory.
