The Lamb of God

Daily Reading

John 1:29-34

Daily Reflection

In this passage, John the Baptizer, a forerunner to Jesus, identifies Jesus as the Lamb of God. In ancient Judaism, a lamb without blemish was sacrificed to memorialize God's deliverance of his people from slavery. This lamb was referred to as the Passover Lamb. In many church services, the words in communion liturgies affirm this belief in the words, "Christ our Passover was sacrificed for us." These words are recited  to remember that Jesus is the Lamb of God, and through his sacrifice on the cross, we are reconciled with God. Jesus was the ultimate Passover lamb. He, though sinless, gave his life up for ours. As you journey through this season of Lent, reflect upon what personal implications this sacrifice makes on your own life. Because of his sacrifice for you, what are you willing to sacrifice for him?
