Daily Reflection
Can you imagine walking around the streets with a little book tied to your forehead? That's what you might see on the streets of Israel both in ancient times and today, as they follow this verse literally! It's a reminder to them of the priority Scripture is to have in the life of anyone following after God. One of the things Lent calls us to do is to ask ourselves what place we have given Scripture in our own life. Is part of the dryness of our souls tied into a practice of keeping Scripture at arm's length, either not caring what it says to avoid having to change, or depending too much on others to feed it to us bite by bite? As you pray this Lenten season, ask God to give you a new appetite for His Word in your life, to see it as food for the soul, a non negotiable part of your daily rhythm. Ask him to give you a holy dissatisfaction with a light hearted involvement with the Bible, and determine that this Lenten season will have you making new plans to place it on the "doorposts" of your heart.
