Kintsugi For Community

Several years ago, I learned about the practice of kintsugi. The idea of repairing what was broken – a practice that not only restores a broken item to its original purpose, but treats that breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. This Sunday, we will visit the area of Gerasenes to reflect on the ways in which Jesus provides a pathway for healing and the kintsugi work of repairing broken communities. People are not only shaped by places, but policies as well–something that the main character in the passage experienced and that we’ll have an opportunity to consider on Saturday as we walk the Excelsior neighborhood with Open Door Legal. (If you missed our walks in the Western Addition and Chinatown, check them out on the City Church app.) This is just one you can get to know our city and other City Churchers better. Another is to sign up for a Maundy Thursday meal! Hosted in homes throughout the city, these meals are a great way to connect with others at a deeper level. Together, we’ll break bread, remember, and reflect on Jesus’ mandate for us to love one another. (Kid-inclusive locations are available.) Be sure to check out our other Holy Week events below!

Faithfully,
Pastor Emily
