Kelly Lafferty
Elder Candidate
I am a Bay Area native through and through! I grew up in the East Bay and attended college at University of California, Berkeley, which is where I first began to wrestle in earnest with the idea of the Christian faith. The bible came alive for me in exciting ways, and I was blessed with the opportunity to experience growing, learning, and serving others in radical Christian community. After college, I volunteered in a children’s and youth ministry where I met my husband, Brendan.
I first joined City Church in the thick of the Covid pandemic, watching from home through the online stream and participating in events over Zoom. I was immediately drawn in by City Church’s mission, and by the prospect of a church community where I could bring my whole self as a queer Christian. Shortly after in early 2021, we moved to San Francisco, where we finally got to meet this church in person — and where we’ve been ever since! You’ll often find me on Sundays hanging out with the City Church youth or managing slides in the back. I’m always down to nerd out about biblical interpretation and theology, or to show you a picture of my cat (he’s very cute).
It’s a privilege to be nominated for the elder board. City Church has been an anchor of support to me, and I’m eager to serve our ever-evolving church community as we strive forward following the Spirit’s guidance.
