June Sermon Series

When the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out, people were invited to step into a strange new reality – one defined by transformational love, and made loud by the invitational proclamation of radical belonging through Jesus. These early days of what became the church was a time of wonder, boldness, and experimentation for making sense of this new reality. Carving out life together as God’s beloved, they were shaped by Jesus’ teachings of forgiveness, mutuality, and collective care. As they grew in their faith, so did their imaginations for what it could look like to follow in the way of Jesus, amplifying their courage to step out, speak up, and share the gospel message of God’s transformative and “queer” love. The early Christians were compelled to embody this love in ways that were disruptive, joy-filled and utterly different from what they had ever known. This same transformative love invites us today–not only toward new notions of family, but a fresh imaginary for understanding what it looks like for Christians as God’s queerly beloved.
