Jennifer Rose-Nussbaumer
Elder Candidate Fall 2019
My husband, Christophe and I moved to San Francisco in 2003. As a native Northern Californian, I grew up coming to the city and in many ways moving here felt like moving home. At that time our oldest son, Zachary, was about six months old and since then we have had two more sons, Lukah and Nathan. We began attending City Church in 2008 and it has played a large role in our spiritual growth and development as individuals and as a family. I am so grateful for the amazing community we have built here which has helped us navigate the difficulties of raising kids in the city, and balancing full time jobs with family responsibilities.
My relationship with Jesus began as a child and youth growing up in the church. Early on, I realized that my journey to helping others needed to start with developing my own character and beliefs. Therefore, I began attending a small theological seminary just outside of Paris where I met my future husband. After finishing seminary, I felt called to medicine and specifically to ophthalmology so that I could participate in healing the suffering associated with physical blindness. At this time, I live into that call by building therapeutic relationships with individual patients and see research as a way to have a greater impact on the global burden of blindness. My husband has recently joined the staff at City Hope and we are so excited to be a part of the work that God is doing there.
Over the years, I have been involved in children’s and welcome ministries, was a Newbigin fellow, and am one of the leaders of the wilderness and spirituality retreats. We have also been a part of a family based inner sunset community group. I look forward to seeing all of the ways that God will provide for City Church as we seek to know Jesus more deeply and to participate in the healing of this beautiful and broken city. I am honored to be nominated to be an Elder.
