Whether it is switchboard operators being replaced by automated systems or self checkout, the advent of new technologies has always stirred up mixed emotions. As people of this moment, it is understandable to feel anything from excitement to fear when it comes to the development of artificial intelligence. It is easy to become as swept up in the grand promises that AI developers make as it is to feel uneasy at the potential harm of these technologies. As Christians, we understand that our power, intelligence, and vocation are rooted in God’s purposes. So, how are we to respond to this moment? Perhaps even more importantly, what do we do with this moment? In what ways does our faith invite us to not only reflect more deeply but act faithfully as followers of Jesus and as stewards of creation? Together, we will explore questions of God’s power, our purpose, and what it looks like to have a more Intelligent Faith.
