On Sunday, February 10 we begin a 4 part series we are calling “Generosity”. We will look at Jesus’ teaching on wealth, possessions, and giving. It’s actually a topic near and dear to Jesus’ heart in the gospels.1 out of 10 verses in the gospels is about money and possessions. The Bible has 500 verses on faith, 500 verses on prayer, 2000 on money and possessions. Why you may ask? I believe it is because Jesus knows these things are not neutral in our lives, but very powerful. They can act as sonar on our souls, or as Jesus put it, a way of looking at what our heart treasures.
This sermon series is not a response to a financial crisis at City Church, thankfully! It is a sermon series for everyone, regardless of income level. We all have a relationship with money and possessions that have been formed by all sorts of factors in our lives. Let’s together work toward an understanding of money and possessions informed by the wisdom of Jesus, so that our church might be experienced more and more as a culture of generosity.
