What role does faith play in the practical decisions we make at work? How does it influence our daily understanding of the work we do? We’ve talked a fair amount about how faith should inform work, but we want to spend some time together digging into what that really looks like. To that end, we hope you will join us for this year’s City Church Faith & Work Forum, on June 25-26th. We’ll get started on Saturday morning—which is a lovely drive up the coast to kick off your weekend--and be done on Sunday afternoon.
This year, we are going to be hearing from a number of people within our own congregation. Many of the people at City Church have been thinking about faith and work for years, including a small group that meets regularly to discuss how to address this issue at church. Dorothy Chou, who works on public policy at Uber, will talk about the discernment involved in hiring and firing and how our faith influences those processes. Sam Oh, a researcher at UCSF, will be talking about faith and science. His research about diversity and inclusivity in medical research has been informed by his faith, and he’s talked about it with The Huffington Post and NPR. Rev. Jonathan Gundlach will kick off the retreat with a meditation on the spirituality of work, giving us a framework to think about our faith in action. And Rev. Lydia Suh will talk about Sabbath, rest, and some tools for spiritual practice.
This is a unique opportunity for you to take two days to consider, pray about, and listen to others talk about the nitty-gritty details of the work that involves our gifts and our beliefs. It’s also a time to unplug, retreat from work and the city, and spend time with one another in a beautiful setting.
