I grew up outside Philadelphia and moved to the Bay Area in 2014 after spending time in Washington, DC, and Chicago. I joined City Church that same year and quickly found a home in the Cole Valley Community Group, which I have co-led for the past ten years. In 2023, I served on our Director of Worship selection committee and am now a humble member of our Public Witness team. Professionally, I am a management consultant with Bellwether, where I help education organizations set strategy, grow their impact, and navigate major organizational pivots.

My faith has been shaped by a range of Christian traditions—including a fairly conservative evangelical upbringing, Episcopalian schooling, parachurch student ministries, and prior church communities that helped me better connect faith with service to the city. Along the way, friendships across many "less churched" communities (including a cappella groups, the Yale LGBTQ community, and a variety of education and advocacy organizations) challenged me to expand my view of God and faith. In particular, I was pushed to deepen my understanding of what it means to truly follow Jesus — including loving others unconditionally and practicing radical inclusion, especially for those who have been marginalized or hurt by the church and by fellow Christians.

Why do you want to be an Elder: I love City Church and believe God is doing important work in and through this community. Our service to the city, commitment to radical inclusion, and focus on deep spiritual growth all help our congregation follow Jesus more fully. I would be honored to serve as an elder, doing my part to ensure that we continue to serve God while remaining rooted in Scripture, centered on Jesus, and committed to loving one another and our wonderfully weird city.

Evan lives in Westwood Park with his partner, Liz, and their two children, Christian and Gaby. He has attended City Church for twelve years.
