A More Courageous Faith
The Hebrew scriptures are filled with stories of ordinary people called to offer an extraordinary yes to God. These folks were often flawed and unsure; filled with uncertainty, anxiety, and fear. Through their faithful yeses, they show us that the pathway to participating in God’s promises depends less on fearlessness than on faithfulness, less about certainty than it is about trust, not so much heroism as courage and a willingness to show up with our whole selves. Regardless of life stage, social standing, or political power, God’s invitation to participate in a grander story of redemption, renewal, and vision of wholeness of life for all that was beyond themselves, requiring a willingness to say yes even when the way was unclear. How might these ancestors-in-the-faith show us the way to a more courageous way of showing up for God’s purposes? Throughout the fall, we will explore stories of A More Courageous Faith throughout scripture to find inspiration, strength, and a reminder of what is possible when we say yes to following God who says yes to us.
